Beatriz Malnic, a highly respected interpreter of Bossa Nova and Samba, will present the history of Bossa Nova in the US. The words “Bossa Nova” (“New Trend”) are synonymous with Brazilian jazz. More specifically, they immediately trigger memories of Bossa Nova’s greatest American hit, “The Girl From Ipanema.”
A lyrical fusion of Samba and Jazz, Bossa Nova acquired a large following in the 1960s initially among young musicians and students. Since its birth, it has remained a vital part of the standard jazz repertoire.
In this performance Beatriz will be accompanied by talented local musicians, including Jorge Sosa on piano, Ivo de Carvalho on guitar, and others.
The acclaimed vocal group Brazilian Voices will make a special appearance.
Various Brazilian songs familiar to American audiences like “One Note Samba”, “Desafinado”, “Aquarela do Brasil”, “Bachianas Brasileiras” and other hits will be part of this performance.

The gorgeous voice of Brazilian songstress Beatriz Malnic breathes new life into the songs of Chico Buarque, a giant in the South American pop music scene since his breakthrough hit “A Banda” (The Band”) won the Brazilian Music Festival in 1966. Known as both a popular solo performer and founder/musical director of the celebrated Brazilian Voices group, Beatriz Malnic has built a passionate following in the South Florida area. Now, she pays tribute to the beloved music of Chico Buarque, reinterpreting it for a new generation. From samba to bossa nova, protest songs to pop tunes, the understated sensuality of Chico Buarque’s music comes to life with a renewed freshness and vigor.
